Sharon's Memories
............Here goes on what I rememberIts funny b/c a lot of memories are in regards to Cathy. I so wanted tobe with her 24/7 if possible when we would visit. I know she probablydreaded seeing us come but must say, she ALWAYS let me tag along and itwas the best! Visiting in California and hanging out yet again with herand her boyfriend in the evening and him asking me, "don't you think ittime for you to go to bed?" Guess I was messing up the "mood" but didnot that at the time HA!I remember her and Laura talking me into letting them do my hair onetime, I am talking rollers, sitting under a hot dryer in that upstairsbedroom for what seemed an eternity, and then the dreaded teasing, (ofthe hair that is) I had this huge up-do that made me look 20 instead ofthe 8 or 9 . Guess it was good practice for Laura...........RememberLaura bending down and telling me so sweetly that, "we will be in yourwedding one day" . I was 8 and we were at her wedding I believe. Mymemories of Butchie was that she was busy! To me, she always seem to begoing but I loved listening to her explain things for some reason. Shehad this intense sound in her voice to me that made me want to listen. We, the Williams family/Russell and the Powers were all at Carolina Beachand Laura and Cathy took down to the boardwalk. We rode the feris wheeland I remember as we went to go up yelling, "she doesn't have aboyfriend" to the guy running it and she, (Cathy) almost died!!! Theytook me back and a few minutes later thought they were sneaking back outwithout me noticing and when I did, I yelled that I wanted to go and whenmy dad and nanny said no I just cried. Nanny rocked me on that frontporch and explained to me in the softest voice how when you get older, you get to do more things and she made it all better.I remember always wanting Bobby to piggyback me for I adored him! Kindalike the Jonas Brothers now for young girls. I remember that house inBaltimore, (I think) like the back of my hand. There was once a dognamed Queeny?? or something along that line. Aunt Janice always had somuch food and was sooooo sweet, (still is).The BIG house in New Bern! Jim upstairs playing drums and again, mewanting to just hang out b/c he was "cool". Amanda came along at somepoint and I was bummed! Cute cousin who plays drums is nowtaken.........She was so nice I remember so that helped HA! I rememberRuth ALWAYS laughing and I sooo wanted to undo her pig tails!!! Janehad "homemade" medicine in her room, ( I think she told me it was coughsyrup) and I thought she was really someone important to be able to dothat. Scared to walk up and down those big steps at night and being VERYshy . Uncle James to scare me! I could never tell when he was kiddingor really being serious. Aunt Charlotte always had lots of good food inthat big kitchen ,(everything is big when you are little uh?) She wasalways laid back and easy going and pleasant tobe around.I could go on and on but those are some of my fondest memories andreally miss those days!! Take care...........Sharon
Laura's Memories
Talking about C-view court….I remember Uncle James telling scary stories at night on the porch with all us kids hanging on every word. I don’t even know if they were really that scary but the suspense made you petrified the entire time. I’m sure I lost a year or two of my life during these stories!I remember well Nanny’s feet and when she put on her Ked’s grasshoppers, baby powder would mushroom up around her ankles! I also remember the Neon lights flashing in the room all night at C-View Court. It’s one of my fondest memories of my times there along with playing on the stairs and porches of some of the units. And the donuts from the boardwalk!I remember Nanny Russell rocking on the front porch while mixing cake batter in a huge enamel pan in her lap! And Pop Russell telling me concerning boys, “Laura, You can’t live with them and you can’t live without them so you might as well not try!” I think this was when Nancy was still in school. I’ve found that to be quite true at different times in my life! In recent years, Chuck and I were at Carolina Beach. The old house is gone but the Baptist church is still there. As a child who used to play there, the steps leading up to the church seemed like a stairway to Heaven. I was shocked to see as an adult, how small they actually were.I will miss Aunt Charlotte at this reunion. She was such a “welcoming” person and was always so happy to see all of us and listen to anything we had to say. I have to say about this family, I have always felt loved, special and cared for, wherever we went and whatever we did. That’s quite a legacy if you ask me. Love, Laura
Butchie's memories
This is what I remember... like walking the cemetary wall in New Bern, playing under the apartments at C V (Sea View) Courts at Carolina Beach, playing chopsticks on Aunt Charlotte's piano. Any one remember sitting on the bed while Jerry put on a show for us repeating commericals, etc. Sally's bunions (oops, was that a secret?), watching fireworks from the porch at Carolina Beach, only having 3 channels on TV and they were all news, Joshua knocking Sara out of her stroller in Annapolis ... Halloween Parties at G-ma's/ Mom's house in Arnold, Elena singing while standing on a stool with a play microphone (3 years old), calling Jim Powers... Jimbo, not knowing Jane and Ruth actually lived by a river... oh... their doll house in the back yard???... walking to church in New Bern... your memories with touch the memory of someone else, a sister, a cousin, aunt, in law... come-on... email me at Frnce@aol.com or figure out how to add blogs... right now.. what do you remember!!
